Converting Reports and Logfile Databases from 3.x
versions of Hit List to 4.x versions of Hit List
Hit List Databases
Hit List (all versions) use several databases to track reports,
logfile information and so on. The logfile database is probably
the Hit List database you are most familiar with, usually
called hitlist.mwd, its location usually noted in Options/Database.
However, your reports (Complete Analysis, Executive Summary,
Path Analysis, etc.) are also in a small Access97 database,
called hlrpt30x.mdb, hlrpt35x.mdb or hlrpt40x.mdb, where "x"
represents the version of Hit List you have (p for Pro, c
for Commerce, q for Professional for Intranets 3.5,i for Standard
for Intranets 3.5, e for Enterprise, l for Live).
Thus, when you decide to upgrade from earlier 3.x versions
of Hit List you need to convert both these databases to v4
format to retain your reports as well as continue using the
existing logfile database.
Converting the 3.x Reports database:
Locate your 3.x reports database, based on the naming convention
discussed above.
Back up the 3.x reports database, to preserve the original
before conversion.
Open Hit List v4, and go to Tools/Open Reports database.
Browse to the 3.x reports database, highlight it and click
Open.
Now the 3.x reports should appear in the v4 GUI, when this
happens, you've "converted" the reports database.
Now you may want to Import 3.5 reports into your v4 reports
database. So exit Hit List, restart it, and now you'll see
the v4 reports. Go to Tools/Import Reports, Browse to the
now "converted" 3.x reports database and import the reports
to your v4 reports database.
Converting the 3.x Logfile database:
Locate your 3.x logfile database, based on the naming convention
discussed above.
Back up the 3.x logfile database, to preserve the original
before conversion.
Open Hit List v4, and go to Tools/Database Manager.
Browse to the 3.x logfile database, highlight it and click
OK.
Now you should be notified that this is an older format
logfile database that needs to be converted to v4 format,
so hit OK to allow the conversion.
When it's done, you will be able to go into the Database
Manager tabs as usual, to change URL Groups, delete data
from the database, etc. You may want to make this logfile
database your default database under Options/Database at
this point, if you want to continue loading the logs into
this database with v4.
