Remote Administration
What you need to do to be able to use Remote
Administrator against the Hit List 'server' is the following:
1) On the Hit List 'server', you need to make the accounts
that will be the "administrators" have Registry access, likely
at the Administrator level. You also need to be able to Browse
to the reports database on the 'server' (filename = hlrpt40e.mdb
for Enterprise, hlrpt40l.mdb for Live).
2) use the QArticle off the Microsoft
web site (Q141460) to make the W95/W98 machines ready to
administer the NT machine remotely.
NOTE - we realize that this article seems to refer to making
the W95/98 machine available for itself to be remote administered
(the reverse of what you're trying to do with the Hit List Remote
Administrator) but the document needs to be followed to allow
the Hit List Remote Administrator to work against the NT machine
where you have installed Hit List Enterprise or Live.
3) Then once one or more of these machines are ready, hit the
Remote button on the GUI when in the Hit List Administrator
version, browse over the network to the 'server' reports database
(filename = hlrpt40e.mdb for Enterprise, hlrpt40l.mdb for Live)
and then enter the computer name for that machine, thus creating
a profile. Then once back on the "Administer a Remote Computer"
dialog box, highlight the profile and hit OK - you should see
the reports database for the server show up (it may take a minute
or two) and then you're connected! |
