Questions Concerning InstallShield's "Package for the Web".
Usually this error means that you did not receive the full download of the product, so you should try to download again. If you receive the error a second time, your system might not support InstallshieldÍs "Package for the Web" program. In this case, simply contact us at ISSEL.
This error comes from the third party packaging utility used. (Installshield's Package for the Web.) According to Installshield, that error is given under two circumstances. 1) You don't have a temp file (so create c:\temp and c:\windows\temp if these folders don't already exist.) 2) You do not have enough disk space (create disk space.)
Errors Identified by Windows NT, Windows 95 and Windows 98 During Installation
This error occurs because Hit List needs access to a file for installation that is being used by a program which is currently open on your system. Shut down all Web servers, virus check programs, database applications and anything else running as a NT service, then restart Hit List setup. If you encounter the error a second time, hit Ignore, then finish Setup. When done, reboot your computer to update its Registry correctly.
If using Windows95/98, you will want to do a Control-Alt-Delete and use the Task Manager to shut down ALL applications except Explorer.exe and Systray. Then run Hit List Setup, then reboot.
If your computer is not directly hooked into the Internet or goes through a non-standard proxy, Hit List might not be able to send its registration. You can get around the registration by filling out information and clicking OK three times.

During installation of Hit List (or when I try to start the program), I'm getting a message that the hlrpt40x.mdb database cannot be found (where "x" stands for my version of Hit List - p for Pro, c for Commerce, e for Enterprise and l for Live).
Check this error message a bit more closely. You will often see a four digit number that begins with a 3 referenced in the error message. Errors we've seen thus far in this regard and their solutions:
3024 - File Not Found - this means the actual reports database isn't there and you need to check your hard drive to verify that it is in fact on the hard drive. Also if you're using NT, make sure you haven't restricted access to this file using NT file permissions.
3043 - Disk or Network error - This error code means you need to create a Temp folder on your hard drive. For more information, check Microsoft's web site.
3447 - VBAJet file error - This error means that you have a version conflict between your versions of MS Jet on your computer (the Access database engine, used by Hit List amongst other programs, ie Access97). The solution is to download MDAC2.0 off the Microsoft web site and install it on your machine, then reboot. For more information, go to Microsoft's web site

When starting up Hit List, I'm getting a message that says something like: "The Jet VBA file (VBAJet.dll for 16-bit versions, or VBAJet32.dll for 32-bit versions) failed to initialize when called. Try reinstalling the applications that returned the error."
Here is a more detailed explanation of what's likely happened on the Microsoft web site. To resolve this issue, go to http://www.microsoft.com/data/mdac2.htm and download the MDAC2.0 components (get the "typical" package, about 6.2 mb in size) and then install on your machine, and reboot. This will fix this issue.
You are, in fact, out of disk space on the drive you are installing Hit List.
What is happening is that this .dll file is write-protected by Windows for some reason, and thus Hit List Setup can't update it. What you need to do is simply do a windows Find for this file (msvbvm50.dll), back up the original to another location, then right-click the original in its original location and go to Properties. Now UNcheck the "read-only" box and hit Enter to save changes. Now re-run Hit List Setup and you should be able to complete it successfully.
-
During install or when starting up Hit List after Setup, I get the error ""Run-time error '430' : Class does not support Automation or does not support expected interface."
What has likely happened is that your MDAC components didn't install correctly or completely. For more direct information on this topic, check this article on the Microsoft web site. To fix this issue, download the MDAC components from Microsoft at www.microsoft.com/data/mdac2.htm, get the "typical" set (~6.2 meg) and install these components, then reboot.
General Setup of Hit List and related issues
Remember that no matter where you are in Hit List, you can hit Help on the right or at the top of the screen and get specific help on whatever item you're working on. Unlike most Windows applications, we worked very hard at providing specific, online Help at every "location" in Hit List, no matter what you're doing.
When running remote reports that take a while to run, sometimes your browser can time out. With earlier browsers or with Netscape browsers, you can't adjust this value, but with IE4, you can check Microsoft's web site for instructions on how to adjust this setting.
The Usual Suspects:
- You don't have any logfiles or you don't have Options/Logfile set up correctly. Check your settings under Options
- Your log files may be in the wrong format. Make sure the log files are either NCSA, IIS, W3C or O'Reilly Website format. You will likely have problems if you're using an Open Market server or a small, specialized server that doesn't adhere to "normal" format logs (ie W3C, NCSA, IIS or O'Reilly formats) and thus Hit List wouldn't understand this server's logs.
- You are running a report against a blank database: Make sure the first report you run has the "Update the database before running this report" checked at the bottom of the Outline tab when you highlight the report you're running (ie Complete Analysis) and click Design.
- You are running a report over a time period for which the database contains no log file information. One example is if you are trying to run a "last year" time period when you only have this year's information in the database. Check this setting within your report in Design mode, possibly setting the Time Period setting to "Since Inception" to see the starting and end points of the time records in the Hit List database and then test further from there.
- You have set a filter that is invalid: Check the filtering tech support doc for more information on this subject.
How do I change the time periode of report?
Since Hit List reports off its database, any information in the database is available for reporting.
If you want to change the time period of a report, simply highlight the report you're working with (ie Complete Analysis), click Design, and at the bottom of the report's Outline tab, adjust the Time Period setting. Hit Help here for more information.
