ISSEL Log Companion
ISSEL's Log Companion is a pre-processing tool that allows you to clean up and manipulate your web server logs. Simplifying ABC Compliance is just one of its uses.
The ISSEL Log Companion takes raw log files prior to being loaded into your chosen web traffic analysis package. Following processing these logs will meet the ABC criteria.
There are two versions of the ISSEL Log Companion, Pro and Enterprise. They both provide the same features but Enterprise makes it a lot easier to handle multiple web sites. Where the Pro version is made to handle one web site at a time (it can handle several sites, just one at a time) the Enterprise version organises all web sites in a single, easy to use view, allowing the processing of all web sites log files at the same time.
ABC Compliant reporting
In traditional media circulation audits are established practise. ABC (Audit Bureau of Circulation) currently audits 1,600 newspapers and 1,400 business and consumer publications to assist media trading by providing independently audited and reported circulation data, to standards agreed by its members. ABC is now applying similar techniques to electronic media. So far approximately ABC audits over 350 online properties including over 1,500 domains to their high standards ABCe demands.
Advertising sales is one of the prime motors for certification. Robots will never buy anything and so are of no value to the advertiser. Therefore there is a long list of exclusions to arrive at certifiable traffic. Periodically this list is updated to include the ever-increasing number of these agents. This causes a major headache for site owners as, if they want to streamline the certification process then these agents have to be excluded. Increasingly sites are gaining certification to provide clarity and comparability around a known set of guidelines.
Whether you are aiming for ABC certification or not ISSEL can ensure that your underlying data and reporting arer based on an internationally agreed set of definitions.
The ISSEL Log Companion can also take logs in non-web server formats and transform them into a web server format to aid their incorporation into HitList reporting. This is particularly the case where log-in information may be held in a separate set of logs and there is a requirement to identify usage by visitor.
