ISSEL GeoDetail
ISSEL GeoDetail adds accurate and detailed Geo Location
information to HitList databases. Normally HitList only provides
country information which is based on the site-names of the
visiting computers where a fixed mapping of the top site name
domain determines country. That means that all .uk domains
are mapped to the UK but also that all .com domains are mapped
to the US. Since many companies in the UK and Europe often
select to use .com domain names this kind of mapping may skew
the picture.
GeoDetail can also tell which country AOL users visiting
your sites comes from, something which is otherwise considered
notoriously difficult.
Issel GeoDetail instead takes the visitor IP-addresses already
stored in the Pilot HitList database and looks them up in
a built-in database extracted from the publicly available
RIPE
Whois system. Since this system stores actual registration
information about the IP-addresses is it inherently more accurate
then a mapping against top domain names. On top of this GeoDetail
also adds much more detail about every Visitor IP address,
not just the country but also region, city, ISP, owner, post
code, area code, dma code, latitude and longitude information.
