Create and Run an ad-hoc Remote Report using Hit List
Commerce Pro.
Note: If you have already set up Pre-Defined Remote Reporting,
then go to step 3.
Remote Reporting allows you to run reports remotely from
the server. Remote Reports are very powerful because
they allow users anywhere in the world, without buying any
additional software, to generate their own reports. This also
introduces a few security concerns which the Remote Reporting
Security Manager addresses.
Ad-Hoc Reports
Remote users can generate simple ad-hoc reports just by launching
any web browser. They do not need to buy any additional software
or do anything complicated. This is a good solution for ISPs
or MIS departments who want to allow their clients to define
and run their own rudimentary reports in addition to (or in
place of) Predefined Reports. As a side-benefit, ad-hoc reports
run much faster than Predefined Reports because they tend
to be much simpler.
Since ad-hoc reports cannot normally specify the database
to get their data from (see Allow ad-hoc reports to specify
domain and database below), they must have a default database
to use. Hit List will normally use the database that it created
the very first time it was run on your machine. If you later
move the database or otherwise wish to have remote reports
use another database, you can specify the new file in this
field. If you move your database but dont change this
setting, the first remote report to run will force Hit List
to re-load all your logs and re-create the original database.
PRINT OUT AND READ THE REMOTE REPORTING SECTION IN HELP
BEFORE SETTING IT UP.
1. Remote Reporting Help. Please read at least these two
sections of Help under Remote Report Security Manager!

2. To enable Remote Reporting, select Remote Report Security
Manager from Tools from the Global Menu of Hit List.

3. Start by creating a Group, and then add users to the Group.
Assign a password for every user that you create. When you
have created all the users, then click the Group name under
"Groups".

4. Click on "New" and create a name for it, then
click OK.

5. Click on "New" and enter their names for it,
then click OK.

6. Then you will see a new Group and a new User both highlighted.
Click the Group name and assign a password for the user. Then
select which group the user is a member of.

7. You will see the list of Reports. Select Permissions which
will bring up the list of the reports. You can define the
ones the Group is allowed to run. Go through them and only
select reports that you want them to be able to run, and what
permissions you want to give to the group. Then Select "Set
domain and database permissions" and click change. Allow
ad-hoc reports.

8. Click "New" to find available databases, or
any database that you want from the list of your databases.

9. Browse to the database. Select and click OK.

10. Next,Click OK and return to Remote Report Security Manager
screen. Once you have entered all the users you wish to allow
Remote Reporting then click OK.

11. Click OK on Remote Security Manager to go back to the
Hit List Global Menu.

Next navigate to the IIS Management Console, select "Default
Web Site" and go to Properties. Under "Application
Settings, make sure the "Execute (Including script) is
selected and click OK to go back to Microsoft Management Console
and close it. Save the new settings when asked.

12. Now you are ready to run Remote Reporting. Open your
browser and navigate to:
http://yourservername/stats/hitlist.htm or
http://yourcomputername/stats/hitlist.htm
The user after entering a valid lag-in name and password is
presented with a form to create the report they need.

13. Select the options that you want to, include in the report.
You can customise the form to help your users create their
reports.

14. When you are happy with your selection click OK. The
time to produce the report will vary depending on the number
of your selections, the size of your log files and Database.
The report will appear in your browser.
