Create and Run an Advanced Remote Report using Hit
List Commerce Pro.
Remote Reporting allows you to run reports remotely from
the server. Remote Reports are very powerful because
they allow users anywhere in the world, without buying any
additional software, to generate their own reports. This also
introduces a few security concerns which the Remote Reporting
Security Manager addresses.
Advanced Remote Reports
You can also generate reports that are as sophisticated as
any report that could be generated by someone sitting at the
server itself. To do this, you need to purchase and install
Hit List on the client machine. When Hit List is installed
on a client machine, it will ask if it should run reports
against local copies of the logs or use the server to generate
them (Remote). If you tell it to use the server, it will ask
for the URL to the Hit List application. For Microsoft IIS
users, this would normally be in the form of http://www.YourCompanyName.com/Scripts/RunHL40.DLL.
If youre running Hit List on an OReilly WebSite
or Netscape server, the URL would look more like http://www.YourCompanyName.com/CGI-WIN/RunHL40.EXE.
You can also manually configure Hit List to run remotely
at any time. Select Options from the Tools menu and look at
the Mode section. Choose the Launch a browser and run the
report on the server option. Fill in the Application URL with
the appropriate URL (see above). And enter the appropriate
User Name and Password for running these reports. Of course,
you can switch between Local and Remote at any time.
When using Remote Reports, Hit List will generate a very
complex script for the server to execute. That
script is encoded as an HTML file. Hit List will launch your
web browser with that script and, when you click OK on the
form, it will submit the request to your web server. When
your server is done generating the report, it will be sent
back to the browser. Unfortunately, there is no way for your
browser to be updated with status information as the report
runs.
PRINT OUT AND READ THE REMOTE REPORTING SECTION IN HELP
BEFORE SETTING IT UP.
1. Remote Reporting Help. Please read at least these two
sections of Help under Remote Report Security Manager!

2. To enable Remote Reporting, select Remote Report Security
Manager from Tools from the Global Menu of Hit List.

3. Start by creating a Group, and then add users to the Group.
Assign a password for every user that you create. When you
have created all the users, then click the Group name under
"Groups".

4. Click on "New group" and create a name for it,
then click OK.

5. Click on "New User" and enter their names for
it, then click OK.

6. Then you will see a new group and a new user both highlighted.
Click the group name and assign a password for user. Then
select which group/s the users member of.

7. You will see the list of report. Select permissions the
group is allowed to run. Go through them and only select reports
that you want them to be able to run, and what permission
you want to give to the group. Then Select "Set domain
and database permissions" and click change.

8. Click "New" to find available databases, or
any database that you want from the list of your database.

9. Browse to the database. Select and click OK.

10. Next navigate to the IIS Management Console, select "Default
Web Site" and go to Properties. Under "Application
Settings, make sure the "Execute (Including script) is
selected and click OK to go back to Microsoft Management Console
and close it. Save the new settings when asked.

11. Open
your browser and navigate to:
http://yourservername/stats/hlez.htm or
http://yourcomputername/stats/hlez.htm
A user then can run a report after entering a valid lag in
name and password, (that you created in step 5-6). A user
can see reports and elements based on Permissions and Access
control of the group.

This
is an example of Advance Remote Reporting.
